Author Introduction
From The Ulrichs of Fuerstentum Waldeck

Fred William Billerbeck, Ph.D. was born 20 September 1928, in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Elston High School, Michigan City, Indiana, and Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a commissioned Surface Warfare Officer aboard the U.S.S. Fletcher (DDE 445), and thereafter aboard the U.S.S. Lenawee (APA 195). In 1956, Fred was discharged to the U.S. Naval Reserve and he then returned to Purdue University to complete his postgraduate studies in Food Science in the School of Agriculture.  His doctorate degree was conferred June, 1959.

Barbara June Aust, of Hallsville, Missouri and Fred were married at the University of Missouri's A.E. Green Chapel, Columbia, Missouri, on 3 June 1961. Barbara and Fred have four children, Angela Ruth, Fred William III, Aimee Elizabeth and Desiree Geneva.  The have one grandchild. Their home of nearly forty-two years is at 445 Lewis Lane, Fremont, Michigan 49412.

Fred has worked as a Food Scientist for the Quartermaster Food and Container Institute for the Armed Forces (QMF&CI), Chicago, Illinois; W.O. Sommers, Inc., Fremont, Michigan; and Gerber Products Corporation, Fremont, Michigan. He ostensibly retired from Gerber Products Corporation in 1987, but has continued working professionally as a consultant and has undertaken many projects in foreign countries for Project SUSTAIN, International Executive Service Corps (IESC), Winrock International, FLAG and PRAGMA as a volunteer executive. When he is not traveling he donates his expertise to the public schools of Newaygo County, Michigan, as a substitute teacher at all grade levels and with his wife, Barbara, he funds a number of charitable projects related to education.

Interest in family history and genealogy has been a passion and constant interest with both Fred and Barbara for over forty-five years. They have collected family data throughout the United States and Europe and are now assembling the materials into book form suitable for publication within the near future.

Publisher's Note: Mr. Billerbeck passed away in 2009. His family is carrying on his publication plans. Look for new titles in 2011.
