Bronaugh The Town, the Man
and his Friends The early history of the town of Bronaugh,
Missouri and the man it was named for, by Lyndon N. Irwin,
PhD, 2010. 302 pages, 8.5x11", hardbound book, ISBN
978-1-936091-00-3. This book is meant to be the definitive
history on this small Vernon County town, it was carefully
researched and contains complete documentation. It contains
plenty of stories of the early days before Bronaugh was
founded, it's founding in 1886 and continues up to 1910.
There are about 50 pages on W. C. Bronaugh, the town's
namesake, and his sometimes notorious friends. The
hard-bound book is indexed and contains many photographs and
ink drawings. Bronaugh is one of the "newer" towns in Vernon
County, being founded in 1886. Before the Civil War, post
offices at Igo and Zulu were known and churches and one-room
schools dotted the prairie. In 1886, the Missouri Pacific
railroad made a decision that a new train station between
Moundville and Liberal was needed. Within a few months, a
new boom-town named Bronaugh had sprung up from the prairie.
Those first years were exciting ones. New schools, churches,
banks and businesses were constructed along with beautiful
homes. Ex-Confederate soldier Warren C. Bronaugh was one of
those who owned land that eventually became part of the new
town. Mr. Bronaugh was well-known in Confederate circles and
spent more than twenty years and much of his fortune trying
to gain the release of the famed Cole Younger and his
brothers from the Stillwater, Minnesota prison. His good
friend was the famous outlaw Frank James. No one knows for
sure why the town was named for someone who never lived
there. AD2392-$40.00

Clark
County, Missouri, Deluxe Edition, By Gregory A.
Boyd. 8.5x11”, 230 pages/71 maps, spiral softbound book.
Locating original landowners in maps has never
been an easy task-until now. This volume in the Family Maps
series contains newly created maps of original landowners
(patent maps) in what is now Clark County, Missouri,
gleaned from the indexes of the U.S. Bureau of Land
Management. But it offers much more than that. For each
township in the county, there are two additional maps
accompanying the patent map: a road map and a map showing
waterways, railroads, and both modern and many historical
city-centers and cemeteries. Included are indexes to help
you locate what you are looking for, whether you know a
person's name, a last name, a place-name, or a cemetery. The
combination of maps and indexes are designed to aid
researchers of American history or genealogy to explore
frontier neighborhoods, examine family migrations, locate
hard-to-find cemeteries and towns, as well as locate land
based on legal descriptions found in old documents or deeds.
The patent-maps are essentially plat maps but instead of
depicting owners for a particular year, these maps show
original landowners, no matter when the transfer from the
federal government was completed. Dates of patents typically
begin near the time of statehood and run into the early
1900s. ADAR456-$36.00

Such
A Foe As Livingston The Campaign of Confederate Major Thomas R.
Livingsto n's First Missouri Cavalry Battalion of Southwest Missouri, by John C.
Livingston Jr., Editor Richard Peterson, 2004. 8½x11", hardbound book, 160 pages,
indexed. Livingston was with Brigadier General Stand Waite at the first battle
of Cabin Creek. Additionally, one of Livingston’s units of command was the
First Missouri Cavalry Battalion, First Indian Brigade, also known as the
“Cherokee Spikes”. From back cover: This is the story of the daring
swashbuckler, Major Tom Livingston, of Jasper County, Missouri. Holding a
Confederate commission, he recruited brave men and formed the First Missouri
Cavalry Battalion to challenge Union occupation of Missouri. It details
the saga of Livingston, his men, and the plight of Missourians in the midst of a
land torn by Civil War and guerrilla warfare. Livingston, well known and
hunted by Union commanders early in the war, nearly had his rightful place in
history lost as he met with the untimely death in a raid midway through the war.
The book tells a story that has been waiting for many years to be told. A
subject heretofore mostly unknown, it fills a serious gap in the history of the
war in Missouri. About the Author: John C. Livingston Jr.,
the great-great-grandson of Tom Livingston, spent ten years compiling the
biography. A graduate of the University of Colorado-Boulder, he lives and
works in Colorado.

Family Maps of
Oregon
County, Missouri, Deluxe Edition, by Gregory A. Boyd.
334 pages with 92 total maps,
8.5x11", spiral softbound book.
Locating original landowners in maps has never been an easy
task-until now. This volume in the Family Maps series
contains newly created maps of original landowners (patent
maps) in what is now Oregon County, Missouri, gleaned from
the indexes of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. But it
offers much more than that. For each township in the county,
there are two additional maps accompanying the patent map: a
road map and a map showing waterways, railroads, and both
modern and many historical city-centers and cemeteries.
Included are indexes to help you locate what you are looking
for, whether you know a person's name, a last name, a
place-name, or a cemetery. The combination of maps and
indexes are designed to aid researchers of American history
or genealogy to explore frontier neighborhoods, examine
family migrations, locate hard-to-find cemeteries and towns,
as well as locate land based on legal descriptions found in
old documents or deeds. The patent-maps are essentially plat
maps but instead of depicting owners for a particular year,
these maps show original landowners, no matter when the
transfer from the federal government was completed. Dates of
patents typically begin near the time of statehood and run
into the early 1900s. ADAR458-$39.00

Saline County, Missouri
- Volume 1 (January 15, 1858 to May 3, 1895), by Kenneth E. Weant, 2011.
8½x11", 234 pages, softbound book. 4026 Deaths
Reported in and Chronological index to selected articles from miscellaneous
Marshall Newspapers, including 1747 marriages. The Marshall Democrat paper
exists from January 1858 to July 1861, while the Saline County Weekly Progress
files begin in 1868. Few papers still existed during and just after the war. Age
has not been kind to the surviving records. This book is compiled from
microfilmed material. While the author acknowledges the possibility of
misreading source material, or missing small notices all together, every effort
has been made to produce a complete index useful to the genealogical and
historical researcher. The newspapers reported not only on events in Saline
County, but also picked up many events in adjacent counties and in those
counties with (then) current and former ties to Saline County residents. This
volume includes information on deaths from 35 of the United States and 55
different Missouri Counties, in addition to three foreign countries.

Reported in and Chronological index to selected articles from Marshall Weekly
Democrat News. The Marshall Democrat was one of the most informative newspapers
thus far indexed the author has come across in reporting marriages and deaths
with other vital statistics for those doing research of Saline County residents,
and those who had connection with Saline County. In addition, it contained many
articles of historical interest relating to the life of present and former
residents as it often contained reprints of marriages and obituaries along with
articles about Saline county people - many of which have been indexed in Part 2
of this volume. Many deaths were reported as news stories and have been indexed
to aid researchers since they may provide clues found nowhere else.
This
volume includes information on deaths from 31 of the United States and 39
different Missouri Counties, in addition to three foreign countries.
