The Lexington Weekly
Intelligence was a weekly paper published in Lexington, Missouri that reported
on local events, plus events in the local counties that effected the people of
Lexington. This paper had local correspondents from Alma, Bates City, Concordia,
Corder, Dover, Higginsville, Mayview, Odessa, Waverly, Wellington and other
communities that published news from their areas and are an excellent news
source to flesh out family histories. In addition, this paper reported many
deaths, births and marriages but due to the small print and the faded condition
of some issues, they are almost impossible to decipher. Unfortunately some
issues are missing but those that still exist have a gold mine of information
waiting to be discovered which is why this volume has been written, but many
times deaths and events of earlier eras can be found in articles, obituaries,
reminiscences, etc.
Note: many brief mentions of deaths, events
and marriages from other Lafayette County papers and adjacent counties papers
were reported and should be referenced for additional facts when researching
deaths. However, some issues were filmed out of sequence and could be easily
overlooked. But by using family relationships, it is possible to reconstruct a
death record for many individuals prior to their being required by law.
