Guidelines for Publishing - on NGS website
Book Publishing
When publishing on the Internet is mentioned, most people
think of the multitude of family sites that offer their genealogy free to anyone
that arrives at their page. While this is a very simple way of publishing, the
author doesn't recoup any expense this way. They may not even build profitable
relationships with other researchers, due to the "self serve" nature of most
websites. Gregath Company, Inc. offers several different services which
can restrict access
to your book to paying customers only. From one-time only access
(the customer needs to download the information at that time), to
password encryption and/or hard to find pages "sold" on
the honor system, we will help you decide which is best for you.
Unless you do your own web page/site formatting, publishing on the
Internet will require manuscript preparation which is currently figured at
$15.00 per hour. Depending on what services you select and what
resources you already have, costs may run as low as a simple
consultation fee ($15.00).
Book Advertising
When publishing any book, the author looks
to all available sources as means of marketing his/her book. The
Internet is a very versatile marketing tool that can be utilized
fairly quickly and inexpensively. From a whole site that draws
people for different reasons with hyperlinks, freebies and other
goodies, to a simple flyer that has phone and mail contact
information, we can help with your web design. A new Internet
"surfer" may also receive several alternate ideas on
how to promote their printed book electronically during this
process.

 Book Ordering
If the author wishes, assistance is also available to set
up ordering online. Not all items work best this way. In a limited genealogical
book market study several years ago, it was found that only a small percentage of
book buyers were interested in ordering online via secure server (information
protected against theft), but others were ready to send the same information out
through non-secured internet connections. As the public begins to use the
internet more, the number of internet orders is increasing.
Whatever the author chooses, Gregath Company, Inc. can help.
