Fredrea Gregath Cook Elected to Genealogical Speakers Guild Board of Directors

Fredrea Gregath Cook, Wyandotte, Oklahoma, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Genealogical Speakers Guild.  She will serve as director for the next two years.  The Guild is made up of internationally known professionals who lecture and teach, in the fields of genealogy and history.  The organization was founded to provide guidance, education, information, and support for genealogical speakers, while promoting the highest quality, most scholarly presentations possible.

Mrs. Cook attended Northeastern State University, Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, Miami, Oklahoma.  A well-known researcher, she is a published author of genealogical and historical material, including college level textbooks.  Fredrea has developed and taught genealogical research and writing courses of study for colleges and universities.  She is a graduate of the National Institute for Genealogical Research of the National Archives, Washington, DC and a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists.

Her love of history has provided unique perspective in the family publishing business.  Fredrea has been a guiding force of the Gregath Publishing Company since the late 1970’s.  In the early 1980’s, she and her husband, Fredas, opened the local offices and plant in Ottawa County, Oklahoma, where they have coordinated the physical printing of the entire company’s business.

Mrs. Cook is the third generation in her family to have been involved in both genealogical and historical research, writing, teaching, lecturing, and touring, as well as the printing and publishing industry.   Active in many patriotic and lineal organizations, she has organized two different chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy.  She has held numerous chapter, district, state and national positions in several organizations.
