First history book published about Narcissa, Oklahoma

Long time historian and genealogist, Luretta Armagost Williams, has completed work on her debut title, Narcissa, Oklahoma Through the Years, Life Along the Mother Road – Route 66. It is now available for purchase.  Years in the making, the book deals with the history and people of the Narcissa, Oklahoma area.

The book is organized into three distinct sections: Church, Community and School. Though these sections do carry material that supports and integrates with the others, great effort has been expended to make this information user friendly.

After the preface material, the historical information begins with the early church, which soon became the foundation of the rural farming community.  It introduces the reader to early folks in the community when the church was but a mission site, prior to statehood, and includes information on charter members.  Within this section, one will also find families of the church, rosters, photos and general information dealing with the church through the years.

In the second section of the book, the author has included individuals and families of the community, not primarily identified with the church or school.  Several early and contemporary businesses are also included, as well as early concerns such as cattle and haying operations.

The school section includes news articles and other information about the school and those involved. A trip down memory lane is not complete without many photos of Narcissa school children, the brick school, group photos, and some of the staff.  One can even enjoy a recipe from one of the school cooks.

Printed in very limited edition, the book is large format, softbound in color and contains families of the area, early history, newspaper items, photos, maps and an index. For more information on the book and the author’s current projects, please contact the author.

More information about the the book may be obtained from contacting the publisher.
