Biography
Vesta-Nadine
Severs is always fascinated with history, particularly the events of
southwestern Missouri. Pictured here, she created a Civil War theme quilt entitled "Lucinda at Newtonia." Each color coded
block has a story to tell about the Civil War. The quilt uses
historical patterns along with some self-designed blocks, each of which
contains it's own embroidered title. Ms. Severs speaks all over the area
at a variety of gatherings including various clubs, schools, museums and
other organizations. She frequently appears at the George
Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, Missouri.
Recipient of the 2003 Governor's Humanities
Book Award for state of Missouri, in the juvenile field. A member of Society of Children's Book Writers and
Illustrators, Missouri Writers Guild, Newtonia Battlefields Association,
Past President of Genealogy Friends of the Library (Neosho, MO), Missouri SCBW1, and Newton County
Historical Society, she
is very proud of one of her books, Lucinda. The book is an
award-winning young
adult story of a Civil War heroine in Newtonia. This book is used
by many Oklahoma and Missouri teachers in the classroom. Vesta has also
authored Jennifer Love Hewitt, Dr. Oswald Avery and The
Story of DNA, and Nation's Oldest Fish Hatchery. A
widely accomplished writer, she has also published several hundred
articles in local, state and national newspapers and magazines as well
as in Indian and Taiwan. She plans to have her publications with her at
the retreat for sale and autographing.
