Autobiography
Randy credits his interest in genealogy to his
maternal uncle, Robert Boaz, who has been doing genealogy research for
over 40 years. Randy has been working on his own family history
for over 6 years. He is currently President of the Newton County,
Missouri genealogy society, the Genealogy Friends of the Library (GFOL),
a position he has held since 2002. He has given lectures to genealogy
groups, served as instructor at a "Beginning Genealogy" seminar
presented by the GFOL, and appeared on local radio talk shows discussing
genealogy. He plans to publish a Scott family history and become a
certified genealogist.
Four years ago Randy transcribed the 1840 and
1850 Federal censuses of Newton County, Missouri. He and his wife,
Karen, have nearly completed transcribing the 1860 Federal census of
Newton County and are in the process of transcribing the 1900 Newton
County census. All of the above census transcriptions are available
online at http://www.Rootsweb.com
and http://www.US-Census.org.
Randy and Karen have traveled extensively in
the Midwest on genealogical research trips. They most recently
represented Newton County and the GFOL at the Missouri State
Genealogical Association's 25th annual conference held in Columbia,
Missouri. Randy's interest in genealogical research is a natural
extension of his work as a Detective for the Newton County Sheriff's
Department in Neosho, Missouri. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in
Criminal Justice Administration as well as an Associate of Science
degree in Law Enforcement with a minor in Computer Science.
Randy and Karen have recently completed and
moved into a new oak log home which they are planning to use as a "bed
and breakfast" or "bed and stay" inn catering to genealogists
researching Newton County, Missouri or the surrounding four-state area.
Apart from his genealogy research, Randy works as a taxidermist in a
family owned taxidermy studio, enjoys historical publications and
movies, and loves to fish and hunt.

Information:
The Hunt for Your Genealogy -
Shotgun
or Rifle Approach?
There are many, well written genealogy books
available today that cover various types of through, systematic
approaches or methods for researching genealogy and family history, and
then organizing and compiling the results. Therefore, this discussion
is not intended to replace those books or methods. Instead, it is meant
to show how worthwhile a precise, systematic approach can be.
