Civil War
in
Indian Territory
Archive

The Civil War was a bloody time in history that saw our great country torn asunder. As if there weren’t enough differences between the Whites, Slaves and Indians, the battle between the north and the south further disturbed life in the outer territories, including Indian Territory.  Whether called the Civil War, the Second Battle for Independence, or just brother against brother, there is a lot to learn from this time period, from Indian Territory alone. This seminar is a way to present Civil War activity in Indian Territory and the records generated.  The battles themselves and the culture and history that they encompassed as well as finding, using, and researching in available records of the time for Indian Territory will be covered.  It is important to remember that Oklahoma and Oklahoma Territory were designated as Indian Territory during the Civil War. The area was wild and generally settled by Indians, few of whom the issue of slavery impacted personally.

Vendors are scheduled to be available with a variety of books and supplies for your consideration.  Both Warren’s and Cottrell’s Civil War materials will be available for sale.  Shopping and door prize breaks have been scheduled throughout the day.

We hope you can join us for the fun, excitement, and experience of “The Civil War in Indian Territory”.
