Paste up (pre-press): A (usually physical) composite of more than one original item/artifact.  Our offices use a repositionable adhesive to place items onto an original in preparation for printing. Warning: Many print processes don't reproduce well when "clear" cellophane ("scotch" tape) is used.

Design Inspiration - Make your cover and title page special.
///////////////////////////////

In today's world where it is fairly easy to "typeset" on the computer, don't settle for only text on your book cover.  While some binding types don't economically lend themselves to anything but text, with the right budget or the type of binding to best fit your expectations, the sky is the limit.  We suggest utilizing different fonts, and/or adding dingbats/wingdings as decorative "bullets", clip art, drawings, photos, backgrounds and/or borders to your cover (again not all of these elements can be used on all bindings).  If a special cover layout is put together, it is also nice to match to some extent the title page.  The title page may match with font and layout, but drop border, background, and other graphic elements.

Book Manufacturing Concepts - Hard Binding
///////////////////////////////

Because of the importance of books, especially genealogy and history and due to the heavy usage books receive while in library, family or individual circulation, our suggestion is that books must be durable, as well as beautiful.

For this reason, our standard hard bindings we offer (and strenuously suggest) are all the ever-popular Oversewn Library Binding type, rather than the less durable (but usually cheaper) Smyth(e) Sewn binding method. In the Library Oversewn method, small groups of pages are close stitched, then stitched to the next small grouping. When all pages have been stitched, the raw book is then glued and reinforced with woven fabric.

Look to local organizations, senior/ethnic/church centers, colleges, libraries, trade schools, etc. to see what type (if any) genealogy instruction/teachers they have and/or offer.  You may be surprised at the active genealogy community you find.

Look to local organizations, senior/ethnic/church centers, colleges, libraries, trade schools, etc. to see what type (if any) computer instruction/teachers they have and/or offer.  You may be surprised at what is offered (many times reasonably priced) within your community.
